Discover the ambitious Biosphere 2 experiment, where 8 people entered a sealed artificial world in 1991 to test whether humans could survive in a completely self-contained ecosystem. Explore the falling oxygen levels, crop failures, unexpected ecological problems, and tensions that challenged the crew, making this a lesson in just how difficult it is to recreate Earth's delicate balance.

Ep 1:

Sealing the Glass Dream

From a New Mexico commune to a $200 million desert megastructure, meet the visionaries who tried to bottle an entire living world—and the engineering marvel they built to keep it breathing.

Ep 2:

Eight People, One Bottle, No Air

Eight Biospherians seal themselves inside for two years, battling starvation diets, smuggled duffel bags, tourist spectacle, and a terrifying oxygen crisis that nearly ends everything.

Ep 3:

When the Bubble Burst

Ecosystems collapse, crewmates go silent, Steve Bannon enters the chaos, and sabotage brings it all crashing down—yet Biosphere 2's strange failures reveal Earth's true miracle.

calling Biosphere 2 a failure feels lazy. yes the closed system was breached and yes it was a mess but the coral reef acidification data alone was worth the $200 million. that's not failure, that's accidental groundbreaking science.

Calling Biosphere 2 a failure misses the point. It delivered real data on CO2, ocean acidification and human metabolism that we still use today.

The BIOS-3 longest mission was 180 days with a 3 man crew. That checks out. Soviet closed ecosystem research really did influence Biosphere 2.
